SYDNEY, JANUARY 3: The Mohammed Azharuddin issue has all the potential to split the Board of Control for Cricket (BCCI) vertically and open a can of worms which could blow the lid on India's most `well kept secret.''In India the clamour for his recall for the one-day tournament here had reached a feverish pitch and yet he was dropped. The selectors were willing to pick him up again but it is said the ``team management in Australia'' did not want him back and put their foot down. What could be the reason? It is said that this sentiment of the team was ``conveyed' to the selectors who were very keen to pick him up for the one-day series here. If this is true then it will become very difficult for the Board to come out openly and spell out the real reasons for Azharuddin not being picked. What is `suspect commitment?' Does it refer to the player not giving his best under Sachin Tendulkar or does it mean much more than that? And if it means much more than that, then the buck possibly can't stop with him. There is going to be a chain which could lead to a lot of uncomfortable disclosures, something which the Board won't want to reveal. The so-called team management here (Kapil-Tendulkar) have been under a lot of pressure from the mediamen to speak their mind on the issue and whether it is true that they were responsible for keeping out Azharuddin.Today, both of them chose to address a press conference, where they said that what takes place in the selection committee meetings are very confidential matters and they are not authorised to speak on it. Tendulkar said the selectors are the final authority and Kapil too conveyed similar sentiments.``Let whosoever is authorised to speak on the subject speak. As far as we are concerned we are not going to say anything,'' Kapil said. Then he said something very significant: ``Someone like the Board president can speak on this subject, we are not going to open our mouth and breach the confidentiality of the selection committee meetings.''On all counts Indiancricket is heading for very rough time. The cricket tour has been a disaster. And now are we heading for another?
