The courtship between the BJP and Mulayam Singh Yadav ever since he became Chief Minister is not only rattling the Congress, it has also riled the Left to no end.

The CPI(M) mouthpiece, People’s Democracy, has criticised Mulayam’s government for compromising its stand on the Babri Masjid demolition and has accused it of wilfully diluting the case through its latest affidavit in the Supreme Court.

The supplementary affidavit had said there was no conspiracy by any political party in the demolition. The original chargesheet, filed in 1997, had charged the accused with conspiracy under Section 120 (B).

Calling it a dilution the newsletter said: ‘‘One would have liked to believe that the first counter-affidavit was an act of mischief by the UP counsel in the Supreme Court. However, a perusal of the supplementary counter-affidavit belies all such hopes.”
