
CHANDIGARH, MARCH 24: Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal today informed the House that the coming financial year would be the year for roads.
Badal was replying to a question by Tohra loyalist Inderjit Singh Zira, who wanted to know how much time the government would take to connect some 27 villages in Zira sub-division by link roads.
The Chief Minister said under the present policy, each Vidhan Sabha constituency had been allotted 20 kilometers of laying new roads and it would be the responsibility of the district administration to decide where the road was to be laid.Link roads, potable water: Agriculture Minister Gurdev Singh Badal earlier said that estimates for link roads to seven villages had been prepared which would be laid as per the availability of funds.
Replying to a question, Public Health Minister Narinder Singh disclosed that there was a shortage of potable water in 32 villages of Nawanshahr district. Work was already underway in 27 of the villages.
Health and Family Planning Minister Manoranjan Kalia informed the House that two ultra-sound scanning machines were proposed to be installed in the civil hospital, Nawanshahr.
To another question, the Chief Minister said in the coming financial year the building for housing offices of the Nurmehal sub-tehsil would definitely start.
Taking up another question, Inderjit Singh Zira wanted to know from the Transport Minister how much time would the government take to set-up a sub-depot of the Punjab Roadways in Zira for which the foundation stone was laid by former chief minister Beant Singh. There was flutter in the House when Transport Minister Raghbir Singh quipped the foundation stone was bogus.
Later clarifying, the Minister said Congressmen had made false promises to the public which could not be met. There was no proposal to set up a sub-depot at Zira, he said.Jalalabad Member of Legislative Assembly Sher Singh (SAD) was informed that there had been no proposal to widen Jalalabad-Muktsar road at present.
