Oozing confidence, at least visibly, Akali Dal president Parkash Singh Badal today sought to take the fizz out of allegations of wrong-doing in the irrigation scam claiming official files reflected that it was he who recommended action against some officials and it was under Amarinder regime that they were let off the hook.

Badal challenged CM Amarinder Singh to make this much-written about irrigation scam case a test case. ‘‘If the government presents a challan in the court in this case and stands scrutiny, I will admit all charges against me. It’s my challenge,’’ Badal said.

The former CM, who was yesterday quizzed by sleuths on the scam, also recalled the file related to it. ‘‘My Irrigation minister Janmeja Singh Sekhon had written to the Chief Secretary saying there has been bungling in the project to end waterlogging in Malwa. He named four officers whose suspension was recommended. The CS wrote on the file that the concerned officers be asked to present their point of view. I agreed with the CS’ view, and when the file came to me again, I wrote that ‘Officials be chargesheeted and necessary action be taken against the defaulting officers’. After that the government changed,’’ Badal said.
