Mohun Bagan salvaged a lot of pride for Indian football today with a valiant fight versus the rampaging Sao Paulo FC in the Supersoccer match at the Salt Lake Stadium today.Playing 50 long minutes with 10 men, the green-and-maroons restricted their fancied opponents to a modest 2-0 win, drawing huge applause from the 50,000-strong crowd. This commendable show came after the other big two teams here — East Bengal and Mohammedan Sporting — were drubbed big time.The first goal was struck by Sao Paulo skipper Marco Antonio off a direct 25-yard free-kick in the 23rd minute. The Brazilian outfit’s second goal came off a header from Flavio from inside the box in the 76th minute.The home team was dealt a big blow in the 40th minute when Bhaichung Bhutia was given marching orders after he committed a needless foul on Sao Paulo defender Thiago, who was nowhere near the ball. It was a bad day in office for the skipper, looking to get involved in brawls with defenders every now and then.Bagan, playing Favio Vidal and Amit Ghosh as the defensive screen, and tried out individual marking quite successfully.Manju to lead The AIFF announced the 20-member squad of the Indian football team for their away Olympic qualifier against Myanmar on February 7.
