CHANDIGARH, Dec 14: The anticipatory bail plea moved by Sunil Gupta, managing director of a Gurgoan based industry, was rejected by the Punjab and Haryana High Court today.

Pronouncing the orders, Justice R.L. Anand of the High Court observed, “There are serious allegations against the petitioner which require that custodial interrogation is necessary in public interest. The bail application is hereby declined”.

Gupta, the managing director of Messrs GCUL – situated on the Behrampur Road – had earlier moved the plea for anticipatory bail as he was apprehending arrest for alleged evasion of excise duty.

The defence counsel had contended that Gupta was not involved, or looking after, the day to day affairs of the organisaion.
