The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) today said it would convene an emergency meeting next week in the wake of coach Dav Whatmore showing interest to serve India following the resignation of Greg Chappell.
Whatmore, who is in Georgetown with the team, has been reported as saying that he would suited for the job given his record with sub-continent teams such as Sri Lanka, whom he took to 1996 World Cup glory, and Bangladesh, who are the surprise inclusion in the second round of the ongoing World Cup.
The BCB has reportedly objected to Whatmore’s immediate response on the issue, saying it would influence the focus of the team, who were in the middle of their World Cup campaign in the Caribbean.
“We’ve convened an emergency meeting of the Board on April 10 when we will discuss the Dav Whatmore issue,” BCB general secretary Mahbub Anam said.
“We have read some of his interviews and reports, we will discuss all the issues in the meeting,” he said.
Anam, who was instrumental in appointing Whatmore in 2003, said “we had to chase him for months. Under him the team has grown. It is no longer the same old team,” he said.
