CHANDIGARH, Feb 26: Work in the nationalised banks remained paralysed for the second day today as employees struck work in the City on the nationwide two-day strike call given by the United Forum of Banks’ Union.
The employees are demanding an 18 per cent hike in their salaries under the expeditious settlement of wage revision with effect from November 1, 1997, and demanding that all vacancies in different categories be filled up immediately.
The employees have threatened to go on an indefinite strike from March 17 if the Indian Bank Association (IBA) does not pay heed to their demands. Private and cooperative sector banks in the city, however, functioned normally.
