MUMBAI, December 22: Scientific officers and technicians of the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) today held a demonstration demanding the management to comply with certain recommendations made by the fifth pay commission.

Around 3,000 officers and other staff of BARC gathered at Anushaktinagar in the morning and held a peaceful agitation against the management for not giving transport allowance for the employees.

Demonstrators said that though the pay commission had recommended travel allowance, the Department of Atomic Energy (DAE) has not implemented it till date.

The secretary of the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre Officers’ Association (BARCOA) Vineet Kumar said despite repeated complaints the management has not implemented the pay commission recommendation.

He said that nearly 300 officers and staff of BARC have already written individual protest letters to the BARC director Anil Kakodkar.

The executive committee meeting, which was held last week, has forwarded a letter to the prime minister and finance minister to intervene and resolve the matter. “BARC scientists do not enjoy any perks that are available to most of the government employees. We would rank lowest on a scale of available facilities,” said another disgruntled officer.
