The Punjab and Haryana High Court today granted bail to Moga sex scandal accused Barjinder Singh, who is, at present, in judicial custody and lodged in Patiala Central Jail. In the detailed order, the High Court has given significant findings regarding the case. “There is no direct evidence that Barjinder participated in extortion of complainants or any other persons. The court has not been taken through statements of any witness who had said or perceived petitioner participating in the crime,” reads the order. Significantly, the High Court has also held that a case on charges of public servant who commits criminal misconduct under Section 13 (d) of the Prevention of Corruption Act is not made out against Barjinder. “Barjinder Singh was not holding official status when he is alleged to have committed the offence,” the order says. The High Court said there is no chance of Barjinder absconding and nothing fresh has come out against him in the CBI enquiry report. The proceedings in the case are, at present, stayed by the Supreme Court.
