The BJP national council meeting was witness to a battle of wits between party chief Rajnath Singh and senior leader Vinay Katiyar. Katiyar and Singh took digs at each other after the latter told the former Bajrang Dal leader to be brief in his speech. Katiyar was speaking on a party resolution on the agricultural sector when Singh intervened, saying “time was premium”. Not taking it lightly, Katiyar shot back, “We are mass leaders and so, please allow me to speak on the farmers’ issue.” To this, Singh responded by referring to Lord Hanuman. “Devotees of Hanuman seek not only power, but also wisdom,” the BJP chief told the ardent follower of Hanuman. Katiyar, who was in the forefront of the Ram temple movement, said, “that is why Hanuman is called ‘vanar’ (monkey). But whenever people find an obstacle in their path, they pray to him.”
