Yet another brain surgery was performed on NSG commando Surjan Singh Bhandari on Wednesday night after his condition further deteriorated during the day.

Renowned neuro surgeon from Bombay Hospital Dr S.N. Bhagwati flew in from Mumbai to help Dr Mahendra Parikh and Dr Jayesh Shelat in treating Bhandari.

Earlier, a shunt was planted in his head to remove excess blood from the brain but it failed and he had to be operated again to remove blood through external ventricular drainage process, Dr Parikh said. He was twice taken for CT scan before removing the collected blood in his brain. Parikh further added that Bhandari’s condition is worsening despite all efforts as haemorrhage continues.

State Health Minister Ashok Bhatt, who was in the Civil Hospital after hearing about Bhandari’s health, said: ‘‘He had made us proud and we cannot spare a single effort to save his life,’’ and added that the state government is bearing his medical treatment.
