CHANDIGARH, July 30: Punjab University today allowed nine City colleges to begin courses in business management and computers. Twenty colleges in Punjab have also been granted permission to introduce these courses. Admissions to these courses will commence immediately.

The Vice-Chancellor passed the orders to this effect today after the inspection reports of various colleges were discussed by a committee constituted by the Dean, College Development Council (DCDC).

Apart from MCM DAV College, which did not apply, all other City colleges have been allowed either of the two courses.

Government College for Girls in Sector 11 and Sector 42, Government College, Sector 46, and the Sector 45 Dev Samaj College have been granted permission for starting the Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) course, while the Sector 26 Sri Guru Gobind Singh College has been granted permission for the Bachelor of Computer Applications (BCA) course.

Government College, Sector 11, the Sector 10 DAV College, GGDSD College in Sector 32, and GGS College for Women in Sector 26, will be allowed both the BBA and BCA courses.

While the academic session has already begun and the first-year admissions are over, introduction of the new courses is expected to lead to a large-scale migration of B.Com and B.Sc students. This, according to some university teachers, will upset the admissions in the commerce stream and the university may have to conduct the admissions again with many seats falling vacant.
