Union minister for shipping, road transport & highways T R baalu on friday expressed concern over the rising number of road accidents in the country. Speaking at the 2nd International Road Federation Regional Conference on Road Safety —Design, Construction and Operations of Roads, Baalu said all states have been requested to strictly enforce traffic laws, take effective measures to control overloading and install unified check posts at state borders. The Government’s committee on road safety issues in its report recommended creation of a dedicated body on road safety and traffic management. The Minister also informed that a committee constituted for formulation of a National Road Transport Policy has recently submitted its report giving direction for improvement of road transport as well the road sector and both reports are under consideration.
