An all-party resolution, upholding the right to strike, was passed in the West Bengal Assembly today, but not without disagreement as the CPI(M)-led front refused to include the term ‘‘bandh’’, as demanded by Trinamool Congress, in the resolution.

The notice was moved by chief whip Rabin Deb, who expressed concern over recent observations ‘‘by some section’’ against fundamental rights to call strike. On the issue of inclusion of bandh in the resolution, Deb said: ‘‘We didn’t include bandh as it’s a local term for strike.’’ The Trinamool Congress’ move for amendment to the resolution asking for inclusion of ‘‘bandh’’ was rejected by the CPI(M)-led Left Front in a voice vote.

Opposition members — including SUCI which joined the Trinamool Congress — staged a walkout.
