After Leander Paes, it’s six-time Grand Slam mixed doubles champion Mahesh Bhupathi who will team up with Sania Mirza.
While Paes had zeroed in on the US Open mixed doubles as reported by this newspaper, Bhupathi had said he may consider pairing with Sania in mixed doubles only if she breaks into the top 50. In the recently released WTA rankings last week after the Australian Open, Sania at 23 achieved her career-best doubles ranking.
On Saturday, Bhupathi, who was in Nagpur at the Mahesh Bhupathi Tennis Academy, confirmed the news to The Sunday Express by saying, “Yes, I and Sania will be playing the French Open and Wimbledon this year.
“We were to team up at the Australian Open, but she had already comitted herself to playing with Fabrice Santoro. We were talking of playing so nothing sudden I must say,” he added.
