Bihar police today rescued Rajiv Ranjan, son of Dr Ashok Choudhry, who was kidnapped at Dhobichak village in the district yesterday, District Superintendent of Police (Rural) Amit Kumar said today. Ranjan was kidnapped just a day after a Patna Medical College Hospital (PMCH) doctor was let off by his abductors, following huge public outcry.Kumar said four members of Balendra Yadav gang, who were taken into custody in connection with the kidnapping, had confessed to the crime and told police about Ranjan’s whereabouts. State to enact law on lines of MCOCA, say officials The Bihar government has decided in principle to enact a law on the pattern of the Maharashtra Control for Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) to check organised crime, particularly kidnapping for ransom, official sources said in Patna on Sunday. The state government has asked the newly-appointed Director General of Police D.P. Ojha to prepare a blueprint and submit it for formulating a new legislation, they said. (PTI) On the basis of their information, police raided the Bhanwar Pokhar riverine area of rural Patna today morning and rescued the 21-year-old youth, Kumar added. Rajiv, a student of the Bihar National College here, was kidnapped yesterday at gunpoint while he was on way to his native village, Banka, along with his father. They were stopped at Dhobichak village, and the criminals took away Ranjan.Despite the outcry over Dr Bharat Singh’s kidnapping, this wasn’t the only abduction reported from the district. In Muzzafarpur, a transporter, Nand Kishore Singh, has become the latest victim of the abduction spree. He was kidnapped in Rampur village and yesterday, his in-laws received a ransom call for Rs 5 lakh, police said.
