Bihar’s first family just got a new addition. After her warring siblings Sadhu Yadav and Subhash Yadav, CM Rabri Devi’s eldest brother Prabhunath Singh Yadav has decided to throw his hat into politics.

Prabhunath’s move was unexpected, including his decision to quit his job as a clerk in the Animal Husbandry Department as he was unable to ‘‘serve the public’’ in his limited capacity as a government staff. What may have been a more immediate motivation was the election of Prabhunath’s wife Mansa Devi as ward councillor.

Prabhunath claims it was ‘‘the public’s demand’’ that he join politics. ‘‘I can’t do janta’s sewa as a karamchari, so I have decided to join politics,’’ he said. He added he would be contesting either from Patna or Gopalganj, Laloo Prasad Yadav’s constituency. If Prabhunath is to be believed, he never had any intention of joining politics. ‘‘I did not want to join politics. But the situation is bad. There are no roads or electricity and corruption is rife,’’ he said, talking like a true politician.

Referring to Sadhu and Subhash, Prabhunath said he was aware of their notorious reputation and admitted they must have done something wrong. The three brothers are known to have an uneasy relationship with each other. While Subhash is a member of the Legislative Council, Sadhu is a member of the Legislative Assembly and both are active in politics.

Prabhunath’s wife Mansa Devi is believed to have been defeated in her attempt to become the Mayor after Sadhu decided to split the votes against her.
