NEW DELHI, JUNE 12: India’s junior marksman Abhinav Bindra picked up an amazing 596 points off a possible 600 in a world record equalling effort in the men’s Air rifle event at the ISSF World Cup in Munich.
Bindra’s luck however ended there as three more shooters tied for the same score and in the eventual tie-breaker the Indian missed bronze by a narrow margin on 0.1 point.
Pistol ace Jaspal Rana continued with his modest form as he shot 581 off 600 in the Air pistol event and missed a
Ved Prakash shot 574 in the same event and faded away yesterday, according to National Rifle Association of India here.
Earlier, Anjali Vedpathak made her second straight entry into a World Cup final, but had to settle for a eighth-place finish in the Air rifle event on Saturday.
Anjali shot 396 in the preliminary round but managed just 101.4 in the final for a total of 497.4 to take the eighth place. The promising shooter had shot 496.7 (396+100.7) in the Milan (Italy) World Cup ten days ago.
In the men’s Free rifle three-position event, a P Subbaiah shot a respectable 1154 to finish joint 52nd.
