Former CBI additional director U.N. Biswas was today put through an intense five-hour grilling by Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) officials in connection with the drug bust at his apartment on May 19. The officials, led by NCB assistant director N.C. Patra, questioned Biswas at his residence at Salt Lake from 10.30 am to 3.30 pm.

‘‘We had satisfactory discussions,’’ a senior NCB official said, but refused to divulge details. He hinted that the Bureau might question Biswas again. The Mizo tenant N. Thanga has absconded but his wife and brother have been detained in Shillong for questioning. The casual employee of Mizoram House, H. Lalawi Zauva, was also grilled for two days by the NCB for suspected links with a drug cartel.

Meanwhile, preliminary probe by Drug Control Administration (DCA) officials revealed that the batch numbers of Ephedrine HCL which were sold to the Kolkata firm tallied with the batch numbers seized by the NCB officials from the tenants of former CBI official U.N. Biswas at Kolkata last week.
