ICICI announces fresh VRS
MUMBAI: ICICI today announced a second round of VRS for its employees. The scheme was part of the proactive strategy to meet the competitive challenges in the financial sector, which includes business repositioning, technological up-gradation, enhancing staff capabilities and skills and their proper deployment, ICICI said. The VRS would be open for a period of one month from tomorrow, it said. The financial institution had earlier offered a VRS in 1996-97, and was availed by 117 officers and employees, it added.

NPCIL pays Rs 50 cr dividend to Govt
MUMBAI: Dr Y S R Prasad, CMD of the Nuclear Power Corporation of India (NPCIL), a Government of India Undertaking under the administrative control of the Department of Atomic Energy (DAE), presented a maiden dividend cheque of Rs 50.44 crore to the Prime Minister at a small function in the presence of Dr R Chidambaram, Secretary, Department of Atomic Energy and chairman, Atomic Energy Commission and R M Premkumar,Additional Secretary, Department of Atomic Energy in New Delhi.

MUMBAI: The French government today announced the launch of `France India 2000" exhibition, an initiative taken by the government of France to give new impetus to Indo-French co-operation in the area of technology and trade. French ambassador Claude Blanchemaison said that France is aiming to double its trade with India and become one of the top 5 foreign investing countries by 2005.

Essar, 5 cellular operators default
NEW DELHI: Six private telecom operators including Essar failed to pay 65% of their outstanding licence fees today, the last day of the deadline set by the government, official sources said here. This has put a question mark on their proposed migration from fixed licence fee regime to the new revenue sharing arrangement offered by the government under the new telecom policy to both basic and cellular operators. Sources declined to give details of default by Essar ComVision for basic services in Punjab and five private cellular operators.
