NEW DELHI, SEPT 28: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday trained its guns on the Communist Party of India (Marxist)-led Left Front, blaming it for West Bengal's underdevelopment. With the state going to the polls on October 3, it was obvious that the BJP, which is fighting the elections in alliance with the Trinamool Congress, wanted to utilise the opportunity for some Left-bashing.``The elections will be a test of the non-performance of the Left Front government,'' observed BJP spokesperson Arun Jaitley, adding, ``We appeal to the people to reject the Left parties for their opportunistic support to the corrupt and dynasty-based leadership of the Congress, RJD and the AIADMK.''He reeled out figures to prove that the CPI (M)-led Front, which had been in power in the State for the last 22 years, was exclusively responsible for the State's backwardness.``The propaganda of the Left Front apart, in the areas of rural development, industrialisation, education, availability of electricity and drinking water, West Bengal remains among the most backward states in the country,'' Jaitley pointed out. ``The state is in the hands of a fatigued leadership. It is hardly capable of providing any initiative,'' he said.He also blamed the Left Front for the deterioration of law and order in the State. ``ISI activities have increased, huge quantities of RDX have been recovered from various parts and the number of bomb-blasts that have rocked the state is alarming. Attacks on political opponents have become the rule of the day,'' the BJP leader claimed. The ideology of the Left parties, according to him, was a historical relic. ``The irrelevance of its ideology has been internationally established even in the countries which were initially committed to Marxism,'' he said, ``In India, the party has kept up its historical legacy of betrayal.''According to him, the Left parties had been reduced to being cheerleaders not only only of the dynasty which the Congress was trying to promote, but also of the corruption-tainted alliance of the Congress, RJD and AIADMK.
