Demanding a national action plan to uproot terrorism, BJP president Rajnath Singh said today that his party would support the UPA Government if it enacts a stringent law on the lines of POTA to deal with terrorism in the country.
“The need of the hour is a national action plan to defeat terrorism. Any such move by the Centre after taking the entire Opposition into confidence would be welcomed by the BJP,” Singh told newspersons at the office of the Central Bar Association in Varanasi.
“If any Bill is brought in Parliament to specifically uproot terrorism, the BJP will back the UPA Government on the floor of both the Houses,” he added.
Singh attributed the spurt in terrorist activities to the “soft policies” adopted by the Centre. “The repeal of POTA by the UPA Government has opened the floodgates to unbridled terrorism,” he said.
Alleging Pakistan’s role in yesterday’s blasts, Singh said: “I had expressed the fear recently that terror acts will strike India in the event of Emergency across the border. Islamabad is fomenting terror in our country only to drive away terrorism from its land.”
