NAGPUR, NOV 26: The main BJP-Shiv Sena opposition in Maharashtra today boycotted the customary tea party by the Chief Minister on the eve of the winter session of the State Legislature, to express their protest over the Government’s “apathy” towards the people of the state.

Briefing newspersons here, the Leader of the Oppositionin in the Legislative Assembly Narayan Rane and his counterpart in the Council Nitin Gadkari said they have decided to boycott the tea party and sent the Chief Minister Vilaraso Deshmukh a detailed letter outlining the “pathetic” condition of the state which the Democratic Front Government has made in its one year of “misrule”.

In their letter to the Chief Minister, they said parts ofthe state, including Vidarbha, Marathwada, nothern Maharashtra and Konkan, were reeling under the impact of severe drought conditions and the acute drinking water problems. On the other hand, regions like Amravati and Bhandara had excess rains and hence the crops in these regions were badly-damaged.

But the Government has done nothing to ameliorate their problems. Moreover, the increase in the sales tax and the skyrocketing prices have made the life of the people very difficult, the leaders said.

“Besides, the law and order situation in the state has badly deteriorated and the goondas, anti-social elements, terrorists, agents of ISI and Lashkar-e-Toiba have become hyperactive which has spread fear psychosis among the people”, they said.
