Getting down to business following the announcement of a new team by BJP president Rajnath Singh, party general secretaries met for the first time on Tuesday to discuss election strategy even as there were worries about the improved prospects of the BSP in Punjab.

The party believes an improved showing by the BSP. Especially, strongholds of the former party stalwart Kanshi Ram could affect the BSP overall showing, though they believe the anti-incumbency factor against the Congress government would enable the SAD-BJP alliance to sail through.

In Uttarakhand, where the BJP is in a straight fight with the Congress, the general secretaries expressed optimism about getting an absolute majority. However, that assessment was at variance with the perception of a top party leader who said the BJP was in fact anticipating a “neck-and-neck fight” in the state.

With only a week left for the Punjab polls and a fortnight for the polls in Uttarakhand, the BJP senior leaders have their election meetings charted out.
