The Bhartiya Kisan Union (BKU) will hold talks with the Sampat Singh-led high-powered committee, constituted by Haryana Chief Minister Om Prakash Chautala, provided its office-bearers are released and it is extended a formal invitation for the talks.

President of the Haryana unit of BKU, Ghasi Ram Nain, denied that it had been decided to boycott the committee. ‘‘We will definitely hold talks with the committee if our terms are conceded. If Chautala is sincere in solving the problem, he should release BKU office-bearers, including state general secretary Ramphal Kandela and others, who will represent BKU at the talks,’’ Nain said.

He accused the CM of misguiding the country by appointing the committee. ‘‘Had he been sincere, he would not have described those killed in the police firing as criminals and anti-social elements.’’
