Designated TADA Judge M.N. Gilani today rejected a government application recommending dropping of TADA charges against alleged gangster and Ulhasnagar MLA Suresh alias Pappu Kalani in the murders of Anna Shetty and Maruti Jadhav.
In his 16-page order, Judge Gilani observed that withdrawal from prosecution or dropping of charges would hardly serve any public interest or advance the cause of justice.
The state government had urged the designated judge to drop charges under the TADA Act against Kalani, as recommended by the TADA review committee. Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde had recently signed the papers.
