VADODARA, Sept 27: Even as the medical fraternity is reeling under the shock of the alleged molestation of a pregnant woman at the All-India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi, by an intern of the Baroda Medical College (BMC), junior doctors here allege that the college authorities had ignored earlier `misbehaviour cases' against the accused. The accused - who had gone to All-India Institute of Medical Sciences as a part of the BMC delegation to attend `Pulse', a cultural function - was arrested by the Delhi police when he reportedly tried to molest a pregnant woman in the AIIMS last week.According to doctors at the SSG Hospital - where the accused was working as an intern since August - ``though the accused had a record of indulging in indecent behaviour with the patients, no action was taken by the Baroda Medical College.''Blaming the college management for the incident, a doctor - under conditions of anonymity - claimed, ``If you keep on ignoring the mistakes for long, this is going to be the obvious outcome.''While, hospital sources said, the accused was reprimanded by senior professors of the Gynecology department for his misbehaviour, he had also tendered a written apology to a senior professor in the department.``Had the college authorities taken cognisance of these incidents, the All-India Institute of Medical Sciences case might not have taken place,'' said a Resident Medical Officer (RMO).Regretting that the incident would severely damage the college's reputation a Resident Medical Officer , in the radiology department, said, ``The action by the individual would be seen in generality. The organisers of Pulse would in future be wary of inviting us for the function.''However, said Baroda Medical College sources, the accused had not been granted the mandatory permission for attending the Pulse function and he had undertaken the visit on his own. Dean of the college, Dr D N Shah was not available for comments.
