NEW DELHI, November 24: Delhi’s borders with Haryana, Punjab and Uttar Pradesh have been sealed till tomorrow’s elections are over.

This does not mean that traffic movement across the borders will be stopped altogether, according to a senior official. The checking of vehicles, however, will be stepped up tonight and throughout the day tomorrow.

All senior officials up to the rank of Deputy Commissioner of Police have been asked to patrol their respective areas from 10 p.m. in the nine police districts across the Capital today.

About 180 of the 9,128 polling stations in the city have been identified as sensitive. And 40,736 security personnel drawn from the Delhi Police and other central police organisations have been deployed in the city.

This is in addition to the 8,000 home guards who will also man the polling stations. The policemen on poll duty have been equipped with 1,404 additional wireless sets.

The police have seized 80 illegal weapons, while another 208 persons have voluntarily deposited such weapons to their area police stations.
