Boy surgeon’s ‘victim’ yet to be found

Police are yet to determine the identity of the woman who underwent a Caesarean section allegedly performed by an unqualified teenager at the Mathi Surgical and Maternity Hospital in Manapparai.

Police are yet to determine the identity of the woman who underwent a Caesarean section allegedly performed by an unqualified teenager at the Mathi Surgical and Maternity Hospital in Manapparai.

According to sources, some vested interests in the police department were allegedly trying to dilute the case. Manapparai Station Inspector Suresh Kumar, who was part of the special investigation team, was abruptly transferred on charges of covertly aiding the accused. Inspector Mahesh, who replaced him, is also awaiting transfer.

Additional SP Shanthi, who is heading the team investigating the case, said the identity of the woman was yet to be ascertained. She, however, declined to divulge any other details saying that investigations were underway.

When reports about the “boy surgeon” first emerged, Collector Ashish Vachhani ordered a probe by a three-member team headed by Tiruchy RDO Ramaneedharan. The team, which included Joint Director of Medical Services Dr Ezhilarasi and Deputy Director of Health Services Dr Veerapandian, interrogated the the boy’s parents and owners of the nursing home Dr K Murugesan and Dr Gandhimathi who allowed their son Dhileepan Raj to carry out the procedure. The team also questioned the members of Manapparai Branch of Indian Medical Association (IMA), who had reportedly watched the CD of the controversial caesarean section, played by Dr Murugesan during the IMA meeting on May 6.

Based on the report submitted by the team, Dr Murugesan and Dr Gandhimathi, were arrested on June 25 while Dhileepan surrendered before the Juvenile Justice Board on July 4. The couple were later granted conditional bail on July 17.
