The Manmohan Singh government today announced the resignation of Brajesh Mishra, Principal Secretary to ex-PM A.B. Vajpayee, and National Security Advisor.

‘‘I had resigned on May 22 after Atal Behari Vajpayee demitted office of the prime minister,’’ Mishra said.

Mishra, who played a key role on several issues relating to domestic and international policies, including the forging of closer ties with China and in bringing about a thaw in Indo-Pak relations, now plans to shift residence to his flat in Vasant Vihar.

Appointed by Vajpayee as special representative for talks with China to expedite the resolution of the vexed border problem, Mishra said his priority was to move from his official residence within the stipulated period. ‘‘Only after moving to Vasant Vihar I will decide on whether to write a book,’’ he said.
