British Airways on Wednesday unveiled another tough round of cost-cutting measures, expected to include the loss of several thousand jobs. The airline has set itself a target of cutting staff costs by £300 million (435 million euros, $550 million) over the next two years. This will be in addition to BA’s existing ‘Futuresize and Shape’ restructuring programme, launched in mid-2001, which will have seen 13,000 jobs shed by March this year. ‘‘The last two years have been about survival—now we want to be in a position to prosper,’’ BA’s chief executive Rod Eddington said. Despite the massive efforts of the previous two years, ‘‘it is clear our cost base still remains too high,’’ he warned. ‘‘To maintain our position as a world-leading airline we must further reduce our costs to invest in our products and people.’’ (PTI)
