Representatives from the United Kingdom water industry will visit Mumbai on December nine and ten to meet Indian companies and discuss opportunities for collaborations in the water and wastewater treatment sectors. Around 24 high level representatives from the UK’s water sector will visit the city as well as New Delhi and Chennai later.
In Mumbai, the team will hold a water cooperation seminar at the Taj Mahal Hotel, profiling the UK’s expertise in commercialisation and regulation, private sector involvement, legal issues, new developments in water treatment technologies, leakage assessment, management and control and a range of related subjects.
The mission members will also visit the Water and Sanitation department of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation, said a press release issued by INDO-British Partnership Forum said.
Internationally, UK water companies and process contractors manage concession and management contracts of over Rs 430 billion, serving more than 40 million people. Between 1989 and 2005, British water will have invested around Rs 3,225 billion in water and sewerage infrastructure with all the money coming from the private sector.
The team will be led by Alan Davis, Director (Water and Land), UK Department of Environment, Transport and the Regions (DETR). It will include leading technology providers, contractors, consultants, integrated water companies, component suppliers and investment bankers. Companies such as British Water, Thames Water, Mott Macdonald, General Utilities, Bovis, Babtie, Binnie, ANZ investment Bank And Herbert Smith will be represented on the mission.
