A series of appointments announced on Tuesday saw B K Sinha being named the new Director General, National Institute of Rural Development, Hyderabad. He will be succeeded in Panchayati Raj by 1977-batch Karnataka cadre officer Sudhir Krishna.

The newly created post of Chief Executive Officer, Food Safety & Standards Authority in the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare will be filled by G Balachandran, currently Joint Secretary, Ministry of Environment and Forests, the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has decided.

Naved Masood will be Additional Secretary and Financial Adviser, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. Ajay Bhattacharya has been appointed Administrator, USOF, Department of Telecommunications, Ministry of Communications and Information Technology.

Alok Rawat will be the new Secretary, Union Public Service Commission. Shamsher K Sheriff has been appointed Secretary to the Vice-President. Rajasthan cadre officer Pradeep K Deb has been upgraded in the post of Senior Adviser to the Executive Director, Asian Development Bank, in the rank and pay of Additional Secretary.

Other appointments include Sundaram Krishna as Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Defence by in-situ elevation of the post of Joint Secretary, Ministry of Defence, he currently holds; Loretta Mary Vas as Additional Secretary in the Department of Economic Affairs, Ministry of Finance, and Viswapati Trivedi who has been upgraded in the post of Joint Chairman-cum-Managing Director, National Aviation Company of India Limited, to the rank and pay of Additional Secretary.

The ACC cleared the appointment of R S Sirohi, currently Special Secretary and Financial Adviser, Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion, Ministry of Commerce and Industry, as Secretary, National Commission for the Scheduled Tribes. He will be succeeded by D R S Chaudhary.

Current MD of National Cooperatives Development Corporation P Uma Shanker has been appointed Chairman and MD, Rural Electrification Corporation Limited.

Pradeep Kumar Sinha, currently Joint Secretary and Financial Adviser, Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, will be Additional Secretary and Financial Adviser in the Ministry.
