NEW DELHI, January 4: A delhi-based businessman, Sunil Kumar, was robbed of Rs 6.5 lakh at gunpoint in Sector 10, Noida, by four men riding on a three-wheeler in broad daylight today.
Kumar, a resident of Sector 37, was on his way to his petrol pump in Kondli, east Delhi, on his Maruti Zen when the incident occurred. He had withdrawn Rs 5 lakh from the bank to pay his employees their monthly salary earlier in the morning and was travelling in the car with an employee.
Accordingly to the police, the assailants had been following Kumar for a quite some time before they overtook him near a desolate spot in Sector 10 at around 11 a.m.
As per the police report, Kumar had slowed down his car to give space to car coming from the opposite direction. The three-wheeler first overtook him and a man with a country-made pistol jumped out and forcibly stopped the car. The second assailant dragged him out of the car, while the third picked up the money bag.
At this point, Kumar’s companion ran off from the scene. The police, after extensive interrogation, said he had acted out of fear and had nothing to do with the robbery. While three of the robbers took off in the three-wheeler, the fourth one drove off in Kumar’s Zen, which was later found abandoned in Sector 11 along with his cellar phone. A case of robbery was registered at the sector 24 police station.
Following the preliminary investigation, the Noida police have said that the assailants belonged to Kondli and were familiar with Kumar’s daily routine. However, no arrests have been made so far.
