While PCB officials are mum on why vice-captain Salman Butt was left out of the last three matches of the Twenty20 World Cup, his exclusion might have been a disciplinary action for speaking out on the Shoaib Akhtar-Mohammad Asif spat. It is being indicated that Butt was dropped for being short of runs in the earlier matches of the tournament, but sources reveal that the interview he gave was the actual reason for his omission.

“Butt had given an interview during the tournament saying that fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar was required by the team and that his brawl with teammate Mohammad Asif was

not such a big issue,” one source said.

“Neither PCB officials nor the team management were happy with his interview as Shoaib is currently due to face a disciplinary hearing after being sent back home for his row with Asif during which he hit him with a bat,” the source said.
