As the tempo builds up for the Cabinet reshuffle at the Centre, NDA allies clamouring for a berth have queered the pitch. Take the Trinamool Congress — buoyed by the PM’s hint he would bring back Trinamool chief Mamata Banerjee — her partymen are also throwing their hat in the ring.

Party leader Sudip Bandopadhyay met DPM L.K. Advani and made a petition demanding regional parties should have greater representation and that it would do good for states like West Bengal.

‘‘I think she will speak to Central leaders on greater representation for the party in the Cabinet,’’ he said after meeting Advani. He, however, deflected questions on the possibility of his induction.

Bandopadhyay said his meeting with Advani was primarily to bring to the Centre’s notice the large-scale violence during the recent panchayat polls. ‘‘Mamata had authorised me to meet Advani and brief him about the grave law and order situation in WB. I did not discuss anything relating to the Cabinet reshuffle,’’ he said.

Meanwhile, Mamata today said she had not given any instruction to Bandopadhyay for meeting Advani. “I have not given any instruction nor do I generally give any such instruction,” Mamata said when asked whether she had told Bandopadhyay to meet Advani.
