NEW DELHI, DEC 7: The Union Cabinet on Tuesday night approved proposals for fresh legislations for creation of Uttaranchal, Vananchal and Chattisgarh states after efforts in this direction had run into trouble last year due to legal and political wranglings.

The proposals would now go for Presidential approval before being referred to the state assemblies of Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Madhya Pradesh respectively, it is officially learnt.

The bill for formation of Uttaranchal state will be sent to the Uttar Pradesh Assembly before getting the assent of the Parliament. The legislation for formation of Vananchal will be referred to the Bihar Assembly as the Bihar Reorganisation Bill under Article three of the Constitution.

In the case of Chattisgarh, it will be referred to the Madhya Pradesh assembly.

The bill relating to the formation of Uttaranchal could not be taken up in the previous Lok Sabha because of protest by Akali Dal, a key ally of the Bharatiya Janata Party -led coalition, which had stronglyopposed inclusion of Udham Singh Nagar in the proposed state.

Loktantrik Congress Party (NCP), an ally of the BJP in Uttar Pradesh, had opposed the inclusion of Haridwar in Uttaranchal.
