GUWAHATI, OCT 18: Local football teams showed scant respect for superior Calcutta outfits as in a series of upsets Mohammedan Sporting and Tollygunge Agragami were sent home after their very first match of the Bardoloi Trophy football quarter-finals here today. While Sporting lost to Assam Special Reserve Force (ASRF) in a penalty shootout (6-7), Taru Club of Imphal made mockery of Tollygunge, humiliating them 4-0.In the first match, ASRF put up an unexpected fight to stretch their fancied rivals to extra-time after regulation time saw both teams locked 2-2.Mohd Sporting drew first blood in the 20th minute through Monoharan whose right footer comprehensively defeated ASRF goalkeeper Pabitra Swargiyary 1-0.The equaliser came within six minute through Dwipen Teron 1-1. In the second half, a solo effort by Joykabui gave the Calcutta outfit the lead once again (2-1).The equaliser came from the boot of Gaidang Brahma who chested the ball down and made no mistake in putting it beyond the outstretchedhands of the Sporting custodian. In the tie-breaker ASRF converted all their shots while Sporting's Moses Ohira shot wide to give the ASRF a berth in the semifinal. In the other match, Taru of Imphal surprised Tollygunge Agragami with their speed and skill as the little known Manipur outfit toyed with the Calcutta club's defence.
