VADODARA, Jan 4: The three-day World Gujarat Meet ended in Vadodara on Monday with Governor Anshuman Singh giving a clarion call to Gujaratis to extend help in completing the ambitious multi-crore Sardar Sarovar Project (SSP).

Addressing the delegates, the Governor observed that Gujaratis had kept cross sections of the society together when it came to carrying out social work.

Singh gave away the Gaurav Puraskars to creator of the World Gujarati Encyclopedia Dhirubhai Shah and entrepreneur H R Shah.

He said he hoped that the deliberations on various aspects would go a long way in the State’s development. Citing examples of Morarji Desai, Singh said Gujaratis had excelled in all fields, including science.

Speaking on the occasion, Dhirubhai said the World Gujarati Encyclopedia was priceless. H R Shah said the award bestowed on him was important as it was given to him on his motherland.

Chairman of the Meet, Krishnakant Vakharia informed the gathering that efforts were being made to involve leading Gujaratis, staying abroad, in decision-making bodies. He said once they were made a part of the bodies, they could in turn ask their respective governments to assist in the development of the state and the country.

Among others, former V-C of the MSU Professor Bhikhubhai Parekh and Dr Haribhai Godhani attended the meet. Later, the delegates visited the SSP dam site at Kevadia Colony.
