PUNE, Dec 29: The Republican Party of India (RPI) has appealed to political parties, having faith in democracy and secularism, to come together to prevent communal forces from capturing power.
In a political resolution passed at its national convention, RPI has observed that division of secular votes has to be stopped so that backward class people could share political power. Stating that communal forces always get benefit because of the third front, the resolution has said the party would chalk out its election strategy by trying to bring together all the democratic and secular political parties.
Through another resolution, the party had strongly opposed changes in the Constitution. The resolution had alleged that the BJP-led Government was planning to change the Constitution and has announced that the party would launch a nationwide agitation over the issue.
The party has alleged that Vajpayee opted for the nuclear tests due to political motives. It, at the same time, says the party was proud that the country became a member of the nuclear club. The party has demanded that the government ensure that various development and welfare schemes would not suffer because of the US sanctions.
The party has favoured creation of small states saying that big states cause regional imbalance. The party has supported creation of Vidarbha, Uttaranchal and Chhatisgadh states.
On reservation for women in Parliament, the party has said that there should be separate reservation for women from scheduled castes, scheduled tribes, OBCs and minorities.
The party has strongly opposed compulsion of `Sarswati pooja’ and singing of Vande Mataram in the schools. Through another resolution, the party has urged the State Government to publish the Dani Commission report, which had completed inquiry of the Ghatkopar incident.
