NEW DELHI, January 11: In a major haul by the officers of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), Nepal Division, contraband goods worth Rs 1.72 crore were recovered from a godown and two trucks in Lawrence Road Industrial area of North West Delhi.

According to the senior officials of the DRI, they raided the premises on January 9, acting on information that some smuggled goods from Nepal are being stored in a godown. Cartons of Nikon Cameras, Minolta Binoculars, Video Cassettes and industrial bearings were recovered. The officials also seized two trucks bearing registration number UP-15 A 1491 and DL-1G 2807 respectively.

The goods were brought in by road through the Indo-Nepal border and were stored in the ware-house. Three persons, Santosh Kumar Chaudhury, Vinay Kumar Choudhury and Deep Lal have been arrested. The truck driver, Baldhari Singh has also been arrested. According to DRI officials the accused will be produced in the court today.
