Keeping up the attack on the BJP, Congress chief Sonia Gandhi accused the NDA Government at the Centre of embarking upon a misleading advertisement campaign to create an impression that every one was ‘‘feeling good’’ in the country.
‘‘The BJP-led Government has been on an ad blitzkrieg on television and in newspapers showing that the people are happy… But is every one really happy,’’ she asked a large gathering at Aurai in eastern UP, on the concluding day of her roadshow.
Observing that weavers in this carpet capital of the country are finding it difficult to make both ends meet due to the ‘‘faulty policies’’ of the NDA Government, she appealed to the people to vote the Congress back to power to ensure development.
At another meeting at Rajpura Crossing, Sonia attacked Union Agriculture Minister Rajnath Singh, saying he had sold the once profit-making public sector Bhadohi Woollen Mills to his relatives: “The mill was established by ex-prime minister Indira Gandhi but Singh sold it to his relatives by showing that it was in the red.”
Sonia, who had spent the night at Mirzapur, also offered prayers at the famous Vindhyavasini temple and paid obeisance at the mazaar of Khwaja Nooruddin Chisti and offered a chaddar.
Continuing her mass contact programme, Sonia visited a number of villages and mingled with the villagers inquiring about their well being.
