A day after Punjab Police gave a clean chit to Daler Mehndi in an alleged human trafficking case, CM Capt Amarinder Singh today said he would take action against any errant police officer who had levelled charges against the singer. ‘‘If Daler is not involved then we will see who was behind it, and which officer committed the mistake,’’ he said.

The Patiala Police are set to initiate proceedings to seek Daler’s discharge. They have also decided to disband the SIT set up to probe the case.

Speaking to The Indian Express, SSP A.S. Rai said an application in this regard would be moved in court and police would plead that as Daler had been found innocent his name be removed from the FIR.

Meanwhile, a local court is likely to declare some of the Mehndi brothers associates Proclaimed Offenders (PO) tomorrow. They include Tejinder Laddi, Harchand Singh, alias Dhian Singh, Surinder Singh and Gurdial Mama. However, the names of Daljit Kaur and Balwinder Kaur, wives of Daler and Shamsher, respectively, are not being included in the PO proceedings.

The turnabout in the case follows the change of guard in the district police. The case had been losing profile during the last few weeks ever since the CM went on record to say that the case had been unduly hyped by the media.
