The Trinamool Congress on Sunday alleged that the two persons caught by them on Saturday were Sukur Ali and Tapan Ghosh, both CPM leaders wanted by the CBI in connection with the Chhota Angaria carnage of January 4, 2001.
Trinamool sources said the two had been caught while smuggling injured cadres from Nandigram.
They were among the 13 who were produced in Egra court on Sunday. While both of them passed themselves as Saiful Ali and Madan Kar in the court, the CBI said they were trying to establish the identity of the duo.
But Sisir Adhikari, a TMC MLA, personally identified the two as Sukur Ali and Tapan Ghosh, who were wanted by the CBI in the carnage case.
A clash had taken place at Chhota-Angaria village on the midnight of January 4, 2001after which at least 11 persons went missing, according to an FIR registered in Garbeta police station.
