Nothing can be better than the ‘‘politics of massacres’’ when it comes to J-K. The BJP and other Sangh Parivar members, who until recently were licking their wounds after the humiliating defeat in the Assembly polls, have suddenly sprung to life after the Nadimarg massacre. The BJP and RSS, along with the support of Jammu State Morcha, which had bagged only one Assembly seat each four months ago, are now leading the Opposition to corner the PDP-led government on charges of complacency. VHP seeks emergency NEW DELHI: The VHP on Tuesday demanded the declaration of emergency in J-K through an invocation of the Disturbed Areas Act followed by dismissal of the Mufti Mohammed Sayeed government. VHP vice-president Acharya Giriraj Kishore in New Delhi and general secretary Pravin Togadia in Allahabad voiced the demand today. (ENS) Significantly, there are only a few hundred Pandit families left in the Valley. The security of the Kashmiri Pandits had been lowered during the last Assembly elections. Sources say that of the two-dozen police personnel deployed at Nadimarg, nearly 20 had been withdrawn before the polls. A decision to this effect was taken in August last year during the rule of National Conference, an ally of the NDA at the Centre.Nadimarg has given the Sangh outfits an issue to raise their voices against the Mufti regime. As news of the massacre trickled into Jammu on Monday morning, the lone BJP MLA tore off his clothes in the House and his party unit wasted no time in calling for a Jammu bandh on Tuesday. While the Sangh members demanded imposition of Governor’s rule, Deputy PM L.K. Advani air dashed to Srinagar on way to Nadimarg to take stock of the situation. Talking to agitated residents at Nadimarg, he said the state government will provide all facilities to Kashmiri Pandits if they wanted to leave the Valley, but hastened to add such a move will amount to playing into the hands of the nation’s enemies. In Delhi, the Prime Minister also assured Pandits all steps will be taken to avoid recurrence of such incidents. In Jammu, BJP and Jammu State Morcha leaders accused the ruling PDP of pushing a pro-militant agenda.
