Social engineering is bearing fruit, as Mayawati and her Bahujan Samaj Party have shown. So every political party wants to jump on the bandwagon—only that each seems only to want to ape the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister’s success formula. So if Mayawati had Satish Mishra, a Brahmin in her Dalit formation, Union Minister of State for Food and Public Distribution Akhilesh Prasad Singh of Lalu’s Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) tried out a Brahmarishi Sammelan in the name of former state chief minister Shri Krishna Singh to mobilise the Bhumihars to support the RJD. Interestingly, although there was no Mishra there, there was former chief of Air Staff S P Tyagi, a Bhumihar from Uttar Pradesh, attending the function. That provided enough fodder for thought to all present there.
