MUMBAI, May 27: The Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) rejected on Monday the application filed by police officer Yogesh Pratap Singh challenging his transfer from his post as the assistant inspector general of police (establishment), Mumbai, to the director, state reserve police force, Nagpur.
CAT member B S Hegde ruled that the tribunal had thoroughly considered all the facts in the case, and had concluded that the allegations made by Singh against deputy chief minister Gopinath Munde, chief secretary Dinesh Afzalpurkar and additional chief secretary (home) P Subramaniam, were baseless. The tribunal also ruled that the allegations were not related to Singh’s transfer to Nagpur. It was also stated that Singh was confusing his return from a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) deputation to the state police and his transfer.
Singh had been deputed to the CBI, and had been sent back to the state police service in 1993. But within ten months of his posting, he was transferred. In his application to the CAT, Singh alleged that he had been sent back from the CBI and later transferred only because he had carried out an inquiry against Afzalpurkar, then chairperson of the Mumbai Port Trust. He had also requested that the transfer be cancelled, saying it would create problems for his family. Sources close to Singh said he was planning to move the High Court against the CAT ruling, as he has been ordered to resume duty at Nagpur with immediate effect. It is learnt that Singh has appeared for the LLB examinations last year, which will be over by June five. He has applied for leave till then, say sources.
“I am not disappointed by the CAT judgment. I believe in the teachings of the Bhagvad Geeta, so I will continue to work ,`’ said Singh.
