The Common Admission Test (CAT) for the management courses is likely to go on-line from the next year.

“We were planning to make CAT on-line from 2008, but since we have only eight months left for the test, it might not be possible this year. But it will be on-line from 2009,” IIM-A Director Sameer Barua said.

“We are in talks with service providers on the issue of converting CAT into an on-line exams,” Barua said.

“The service providers will charge anything from Rs 900 to Rs 1,000 for a candidate. The income of IIMs due to the large number of students appearing for the CAT test will be negligible as the current charges of appearing for the CAT test is Rs 1,500 per student,” he added.

Thousands of students appear for the CAT exams every year across India.
