AHMEDABAD, DEC 27: Principal Secretary of the Jammu and Kashmir State Government and former Chairman of Kandla Port Trust (KPT) H K L Kadlabju was grilled by the officials of Central Bureau of Investigation on Monday and Tuesday for his alleged involvement in the controversial dredging contract case of KPT in 1998.
Kadlabju was summoned by the CBI, Gandhinagar, on Monday following recovery of Rs 26.4 lakh from his Ahmedabad residence on last Friday. CBI has registered a case for amassing disproportionate assets and also for breach of trust using official position.
It may be recalled that on December 15, more than eight teams comprising of CBI officials from Gandhinagar raided residences and offices of five senior KPT officials while another team raided Circuit House in Jammu where Kadlabju stayed. The CBI officials also recovered more than Rs 10 lakh from him at the Jammu Circuit House. Residences of Deputy Chairman of KPT Vipul Mittra, Chief Engineer N R Pai, Hydraulic Engineer G S Rao and two other officials were also searched by the CBI officials.
Though the CBI officials remained tight-lipped about interrogation of the Principal Secretary of J & K Government, a well-placed source said the agency officials are trying to extract more information about some other shady deals of Kandla Port Trust during Kadlabju’s tenure as Chairman of the Port in 1998.
